Less Impressive Than It Is Expensive: Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar!

The Good: Conditions hair all right
The Bad: VERY Expensive, No real scent
The Basics: Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar is a stiflingly expensive hair conditioner that does very little for the price.

When I tried the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Shampoo w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar (reviewed here!), I was largely unimpressed. Despite that, when my wife had picked us up the shampoo, it had arrived as a two-pack. As a result, in addition to having the shampoo, we also got a jar of Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar. A masque, in this context, I quickly learned is just a fancy name for hair conditioner. This masque is far more expensive than most conditioners I have used and the price is not indicative of a significant difference in quality.

Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar is a high-end Masque that delivers mediocre conditioning results at a high price. The Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar is fair at conditioning hair, but it lacks an interesting scent and does not do much other than moisturize hair and prevent split ends. After a few weeks of use, the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar acted more as a prophylactic to environmental damage than it did actually revitalize the hair I had that was damaged and broken.

When it comes to hair care products, I tend to enjoy ones that do what they promise and leave hair smelling good. The Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar conditions all right, but it leaves no scent. I tested that theory after two weeks of noticing no distinct scent in my hair using the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar and its accompanying shampoo. After finding it virtually scentless on my hair, I did a test. I used a simple Suave Lavender Lilac Shampoo (reviewed here!) and after using that and the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar, my hair smelled like lilac, just like the cheap shampoo. The Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar effectively sealed in the scent for hours after its use.

With a cost of approximately $25 (or more in some salons!) for a 12 fl. oz. jar, Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar is very expensive. The jar is smooth and round, with a very large mouth. The jar's plastic is opaque which suggests that the cream inside should not be exposed to UV rays (something I once learned at a dairy I toured!). When wet, the jar slips out of the hands easily. The cap screws off, which makes it a little more difficult to get the Masque out while showering, as compared to a flip-top lid. The cream inside the bottle is an opaque pearlescent white and very thick.

The scent of Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar is very much a fruity, mildly floral smell. The Masque smells initially like alcohol, which is somewhat surprising to me. The scent becomes weak after only a minute on the hair. The scent of the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar lingers for only about three minutes in the shower. By the time one's hair is dry, the faint scent of the Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar disappears entirely.

Like most Masques, there is nothing complicated to using the Shae Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar. In a shower, after cleaning your hair with a shampoo and entirely rinsing the shampoo out, apply the masque liberally to your wet hair. I had to use a half-dollar-sized dollop, about a half-inch thick, of the Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar Masque in order to fully coat my hair. This is a bit more than other conditioners I use and have reviewed. As well, the Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar has very low viscosity, so it takes a lot to move the cream through one's hair. The Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar takes a bit more effort to wash it out of the hair because it is so thick.

The Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar does not repair damaged hair, through the dry hair I had that was not yet broken or split became well moisturized and healthy after about a week's use. After a month's use, I noticed I was not getting any new split ends. Shea Moisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar might not have a strong scent, but it seals in the scent of whatever shampoo one uses and it seems to prevent some damage, even if it does not repair damaged hair.

Having worked with other, less-expensive, conditioners that have repairative qualities with strong scents I enjoy, it is impossible for me to get excited about paying so much more for so many fewer benefits from the Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque w/Baobab Protein & Apple Cider Vinegar.
