Myah Eagerly Comes Running For (Then Returns Later To) Purina Busy HeartyHide Basted Chicken Flavor Treats!

The Good: Dental benefits, Healthy, Good ingredients, Smells great, Myah enjoys them!
The Bad: More expensive than many other rawhide treats.
The Basics: Myah surprised me by coming back to the Purina Busy HeartyHide Basted Chicken Flavor dog treats we bought for her!

I have no problem with admitting that Myah, the loyal Siberian Husky who helps me review all of the dog-related products these days, is quite the finicky girl. If she does not like something, she lets me know and she will not return to a product that did not thrill her on the first run. At least, that is how she usually is. So far, the only notable exception to that behavior came from the Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide dog treats my wife and I got for her.

While the 5 oz. box was a bit more expensive than I would have liked (these are essentially rawhide treats and I have found most pet stores locally have rawhide dirt cheap!), Myah consistently showed that she went for this treat both for taste and for the activity element, making it a surprisingly good overall value.

Basics

We picked up the 5 oz. bag of Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide when they were on sale, but given that the fairly bulky box had only ten treats in it, I was initially underwhelmed by it. So when Myah initially went for, then abandoned, her Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide dog treat, I was understandably upset. Fortunately, she came back and spent an hour eating (each) of these treats, so we ended up with no waste from them!

The Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide dog treats are hard rawhide treats that are coated in a chicken glaze. Each Basted Chicken flavor HeartyHide is about 5 1/4” long, 2 1/2” wide and 1/8” – 3/16” thick. Most of the HeartyHide are curved and the dimensions vary because these are rawhide.

Ease Of Preparation

This is a ready-to-eat dog treat and only requires one to open the resealable box to dispense.

Myah’s Reaction

The Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide treats smell like chicken and that brought Myah running. With each of these treats, her initial lunge for them was clearly for taste; she would lick off the chicken glaze, leaving behind the white (mostly) flat rawhide. Myah would show absolutely no interest in the unglazed treat for about a day after she cleaned the basting sauce off it.

But then, a day to three days after she was given each treat, she would go hunting for the stripped rawhide and when she did, she would begin chewing upon it vigorously and in a determined fashion, much like what I suspect the creators of the treat wanted her to. When she got through the rawhide, these was a clear improvement in her breath and the cleanliness of her teeth! This hard treat worked wonders to clean her teeth, giving it a decent value to me (who loathes trying to wrestle with her to brush her teeth).

Nutrition

The Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide dog treats are fairly healthy. With at least 70% crude protein, .5% crude fat and no more than 1% crude fiber and 18% moisture, the Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide offer serious nutrition for dogs. Made primarily of beefhide, maltodextrins, and animal digest, this is a treat that seems to satisfy Myah’s tastebuds, as well as our desire for her to have nutritious treats that have a strong dental benefit. As wekk, Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide treats appear to have nothing bad in them. The Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide have over a year shelf life (our box would have expired in September 2015, had Myah not eaten them up within a month!). As with all dog treats, it is highly recommended that when you give your dog Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide treats, you make sure they have a decent supply of clean water available. More than any other treats – including other rawhide treats – these seemed to make Myah very thirtsy. Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide treats are not intended to replace dog food.

Overall

My initial gripe about the expense of Purina Busy Basted Chicken Flavor HeartyHide treats easily faded when Myah responded more immediately to this treat than she did to plain rawhide treats. That makes this a winner for Purina and a real hit with Myah!
