Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water Only Reveals Its Flavor After The Carbonation Bubbles Out!

The Good: Decent taste, Reasonably priced, No nutritional detriment
The Bad: Overly carbonated, Not the most flavorful
The Basics: Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is a good, but could be quite a bit more flavorful.

As I have been branching out in my food and drink reviews, I often find myself encountering new (to me) products these days. As I sit down to review the Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water, I was surprised to discover that it is the first flavored water I have reviewed! This is close to the soda pops I have reviewed, but far less flavorful.

Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is a reasonably-priced sparkling water product that is sold in plastic bottles from Faygo.

Basics

Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is a bottled sparkling water that is sold at grocery stores. Each liter bottle (1 quart, 1.8 fl. oz.) plastic bottle houses the clear liquid. The bottles look unremarkable, but professional and uniform.

The 1 liter bottle represents about four servings of Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water.

Ease Of Preparation

Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is a liquid in a clear 23.8 fl. oz. bottle. Preparation is as easy as opening the bottle by twisting the bottle cap off and drinking the liquid inside. I recommend refrigerating the bottle first as its full flavor potential is reached by having it cool.

Taste

The aroma of the Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is distinctly fruity and obviously citrus. The scent is recognizably that of pink grapefruit and the aroma becomes more noticeable as the drink gets warmer.

On the taste front, the flavor is initially dominated by a strangely salty flavor. That salty flavor comes from the carbonation and the flavor dissipates as the carbonation bubbles out. At that time, the Grapefruit Sparkling Water actually starts to taste more fruity. Until then, it is a bland water that is overwhelmed by the bubbles in the drink.

Nutrition

As a sparkling water, one might expect this to have unpronounceable ingredients related to its carbonation. However, Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is made entirely of carbonated water and natural flavor. There are no other or unpronounceable ingredients in this and Faygo seems committed to creating a uniquely-flavored beverage that is not as bad as soda pop!

Nutritionally, Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is not enough to live off of, but it could be worse. Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water has no calories, no carbohydrates, no sodium and no protien. Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water has no fat, nor any other nutrients.

Storage/Clean-up

Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water comes in a plastic bottle and I was surprised by how soon it expired. The bottles I bought early in November (2012) had a February 9, 2013 expiration date!

This drink is clear and no matter what it gets on, it will not stain or leave any residue once it evaporates.

Overall

Faygo Grapefruit Sparkling Water is fair and the gimmick of the sparkling nature overwhelms the gimmick of the fruit flavor. Fortunately, when the bubbles wear out, this becomes a decent grapefruit flavored drink.
