Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Cat Treats Grew On Gollum!

The Good: Gollum enjoyed them, Pretty fair price
The Bad: It took time for Gollum to actually start enjoying them, No dental benefits
The Basics: Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor treats are a treat Gollum enjoys, though it took him awhile to get into them!

Every now and then, Gollum takes some time to get into a treat I get for him. As it is, there have been very few treats that Gollum, my little black house cat does not try and have a pretty distinct reaction to. He’s a “love it or hate it” cat. He tends to give very few treats a second chance. But, with the Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor treats, Gollum did not originally like them, but when we kept giving them to him, he started coming back for them. Now, whenever I shake the little cardboard box the Catty Shack Vitamin C Fortified Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Cat Treats, he comes running.

Basics

Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Flavored Tartar Control cat treats are soft little treats that come shaped like little brown cylinders. They are very soft and actually smell like seafood. These treats are pretty much bite sized for a cat, though they require Gollum to chew them. Each one is a rectangle 7/16” long and 5/16” wide.

Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Flavored Tartar Control treats are the only Catty Shack cat treats I have given Gollum and the 4 oz. milk carton style container lasted him three months.

Ease Of Preparation

Catty Shack plays off classic conditioning, by having pet owners who use Catty Shack to shake the container to bring cats to the owner for their treats. Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Flavored treats were available in a cardboard "shake it up" container. This container creates a loud, recognizable rattle sound that brings cats to it right away (I still call out to Gollum with the question "Who wants treats?" whenever dispensing this as a treat).

The truth is, though, I'm a somewhat lazy cat owner. Gollum keeps me moving around to play fetch and keep the litter box immaculately cleaned, I'm often too busy (or forgetful) to give him the treats he claims to deserve (he’s not always the good cat he declares himself to be!). As such, more often than not, Gollum gets the treats like Lucky Charms marshmallows in his dinner.

Gollum’s Reaction

The package only recommends giving these to cats as a treat and dispensed in such a way, we made the box last months. Gollum began very neutral to these treats (I was, too, because they were not hard and thus did nothing for tartar or plaque build-up on Gollum’s teeth). Fortunately, as Gollum acclimated to these, he actually started running for them when I would dispense them. These smell very fishy and that made them a great hide and seek treat for my cat as well.

Nutrition

Unlike hard cat treats, the Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor cat treats have no dental benefits for cats. On the nutrition front, they are not bad, probably owing to the fact that the primary ingredients are: Chicken Liver, Chicken By-Product Meal, and Wheat Flour. The ingredients are mostly natural and they seem to agree with Gollum.

With a minimum of 25% crude protein and 9% fat, but no more than 2% crude fiber and 30% moisture, there is nothing truly bad in them. It is always recommended to have adequate water supplies available for your cat when giving them treats and I have noticed that Gollum goes for his water after eating these.

Overview

Gollum’s initially neutral reaction and the lack of dental benefits did not sour me on the Catty Shack Shrimp & Tuna Flavor Flavored Cat treats. They are a decent, affordable cat treat that Gollum came to enjoy and are worth picking up in a pinch.
